Her Dreams First Not marriage. Child marriage is a violation of human rights and a barrier to the dreams and potential of young girls. In many cultures across Nigeria, particularly in the Northern region, girls are forced into marriage before they are emotionally, mentally, or physically ready. Many lose their childhood, some education, and tragically, some lives. Marriage is not a game. It is a lifelong commitment that requires maturity, understanding, and personal choice. A child cannot make such a decision, because she has not yet fully embraced herself, her identity, or her dreams. Her Dreams First is a campaign dedicated to ending child marriage in Nigeria. We are saying: enough is enough. Girls must be allowed to grow, learn, and make their own life choices. Parents and communities must recognize that no girl should be married off before she is ready, before she is fully herself. We envision a Nigeria where every girl can dream freely, pursue her education, and choose when and whom to marry. Every girl deserves the right to live her childhood, to develop her talents, and to decide her own future.
